Power-to-X

Power-to-X is the value enhancement of green energy into other forms of energy, such as ammonia or green fuels.

From Green Resources to Fuels of the Future

At Skovgaard Energy, we work to reduce dependence on fossil fuels – and for that, we need Power-to-X technologies.

Wind, sun, and biogas are the resources, while Power-to-X is the value enhancement. This is where we can unlock the potential using these ingredients.

With Power-to-X technology, we can help balance the power grid so that, in the future, it becomes 100% green and 100% stable, while also innovatively creating the green fuels of tomorrow.

In Ramme near Lemvig, we are demonstrating the world’s first dynamic Power-to-Ammonia plant. Here, green electricity is converted into ammonia (X), giving us a glimpse into one of the energy solutions of the future.

At Energy Hub Holstebro, we are working on a new facility that will produce SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), opening the door to a new generation of green jet fuel. SAF is produced using Power-to-X technology with green electricity from wind and sun, combined with biogenic CO₂ from biogas. SAF can replace fossil jet fuel in today’s aircraft engines without technical modifications, making it a key to greener aviation and an important element in the global climate effort.

Power-to-Ammonia

The dynamic Power-to-X plant REDDAP in Ramme is the world’s first facility to use electricity directly from wind turbines and solar panels to produce green ammonia – adjusting production according to the amount of sun and wind available.

Green ammonia can be used for fertilizers and chemicals, and it also opens the door to producing green fuels. The area is attracting others, including those developing ship engines of the future that can run on green ammonia.

REDDAP was created through a partnership between Skovgaard Energy, Topsoe, and Vestas.

SAF – Sustainable Aviation Fuel

At Energy Hub Holstebro, we are working to make green aviation a reality. Here, in the company North Sky, together with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, we will build a Power-to-X facility that can convert green electricity, hydrogen, and biogas into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The resources for production come from our own projects: Climate Park Northwest Jutland and Maabjerg Biogas.

By using green electricity and captured CO₂, we can create a fuel that not only reduces climate impact but can also be produced in Denmark – benefiting the climate, aviation, and energy security.

At the same time, it ensures that the green energy produced in Northwest Jutland is refined locally, creating jobs and driving economic growth in the region.
