Synergy and sector coupling

Sector coupling creates the future we dream of – because it’s in cross-sector synergies that our business areas make a decisive difference.

Collaboration across sectors: The key to a stable and sustainable energy system

We believe that if we want to create a circular and sustainable energy production – and if Denmark wants to lead in green energy – we must collaborate across sectors. It’s about creating synergy between production and consumption so we can maximize the use of renewable energy sources and make the energy system more stable, flexible, and efficient.

We Connect It All

At Skovgaard Energy, we don’t just produce energy. We connect different sectors and industries so that energy production is integrated with other areas – such as agriculture, industry, or transport – to create holistic solutions. Ultimately, it’s about using energy more efficiently and achieving a better balance in the energy system. It’s in these synergies that our efforts make a decisive difference.

Sector coupling happens across the entire value chain – from harvesting energy (wind, solar, biomass) to storage and refinement (ammonia, aviation fuel). In addition, we explore opportunities for circular business development, where surplus streams such as heat and water can be utilized in other industries.

Power-to-X or X-to-Power?

The NH3 Spark project is an example of how we work with sector coupling. NH3 Spark is a collaboration between Everllence, DTU, and Skovgaard Energy, aiming to modify, test, and operate a four-stroke engine for the shipping industry running on 100% pure ammonia. The production of green ammonia takes place at our dynamic Power-to-Ammonia plant, REDDAP.

Shipping today accounts for a significant share of global greenhouse gas emissions – and as maritime traffic is expected to grow steadily in the future, there is a need to develop and implement technologies and alternative fuels that can reduce the climate footprint.

In addition, the project can help address one of tomorrow’s challenges: balancing the power grid with Power-to-X and here, X-to-Power.

The project receives support from EUDP.
